Jalepeno Popper Burger

Jalapeno Popper Burger
This sassy burger has a little bit of bite and a whole lot of flavor! This super tender sandwich is made with ground sirloin, a lean ground beef, made from the center loan cut creating a yummy-tender burger. Don’t forget to load up on the tomatoes, lettuce and red onions for extra healthful nutrients. All you have to do now is invite your family and friends over for a delicious cookout for the holiday weekend!

Serves: 4

Ingredients

• 1 pound ground sirloin.
• 3 ounces reduced fat-cream cheese, softened at room temperature.
• ¾ cup shredded pepper Jack cheese.
• 1 medium jalapeno pepper, seeded and finely chopped.
• 1/8 tsp. Celtic sea salt.
• Fresh cracked black pepper.
• 4 whole-wheat buns.
• ¼ cup ketchup, organic & unsweetened if possible.
• 1 medium red onion, sliced into thin rings,
• 1 medium tomato, thinly sliced.
• 4 butter lettuce leaves.

Directions

1 – Preheat your grill to medium-high.

2 – Grab a medium size bowl and combine the cream cheese, shredded cheese and jalapeno. Make sure you stir and mash as you go until all ingredients are incorporated well and there aren’t any clumps from the cream cheese. Tip: always use room temp cream cheese. If it’s cold, you will be mixing for a long while! Set aside.

3 – To make the burgers, form the sirloin into 4 patties, even in size so they cook the same. Season both sides with salt and pepper.

4 – Grill the burgers until almost done, add a slice of sharp cheddar (this is optional) and close the lid so it melts faster. Check the burgers with a thermometer until it reads 160 degrees. Pull the burgers off and let rest on a platter.

5 – Toast your buns on the grill until warm and slight grill marks are seen on the bread.

6 – Take your bottom bun and place on a plate. Add a few slices of lettuce. Spread 3 Tbsp. of the jalapeno cheese mixture down and add your burger on top (the heat from the meat will melt the cheese perfectly). Top with a Tbsp. of ketchup, add red onion and tomato slices (use as much as you like here). And place the top of the bun on the sandwich and serve immediately!

Notes:We are a pretty “cheesy” family, so I add a slice of sharp cheddar on our burgers just before pulling them off the grill to add a little extra gooeyness to the sandwich. You can use any kind of bun, just try to keep it whole-wheat if you can. I usually use sesame buns if I have them lying around.
